Careful removal of teeth that cannot be saved, including problem wisdom teeth.
About Tooth Extraction & Wisdom Teeth
An extraction is the removal of a tooth. Wisdom teeth, the last teeth at the back, often need removal when there is not enough room for them.
When is it needed?
A tooth may need to be removed when it is badly decayed or broken, loose from gum disease, or causing crowding. Wisdom teeth are removed when they cause pain, swelling or damage to the next tooth.
What to expect
The area is numbed with local anaesthesia. After the tooth is removed you will be given clear aftercare instructions, and the dentist will discuss options to replace the tooth if needed.
Tooth Extraction & Wisdom Teeth: common questions
How long does healing take?
The first healing takes about one to two weeks. Following the aftercare advice, especially on the first day, helps to avoid problems.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. Wisdom teeth that have come through fully, are healthy and can be cleaned do not need removal. Your dentist will advise after an examination and X-ray.
